Sheep Creek Trail

Juneau?s Backside Ridge Trail

Often used as an early drop in from the Juneau Cirque or an easier skiing access in the winter to Icy Gulch, Sheep Creek remains a less used trail due to it being hidden and largely unmarked out Thane road. Originally named by Richard Harris, Joe Juneau himself mistook the mountain goats that frequent the area for sheep.

After a steep early gain, the trail settles down in the creek basin for the majority of the distance ending in switchbacks up to the ridge. The trail can often be hard to find, especially when coming from the ridge side. For the most part, it follows the power lines back down to the stream bed.
